The quaint town of Hutto, close to 30 miles northeast of Austin, is everything you could imagine for a quintessential, small Texas town. The colorful town has the appeal of the historic hill country, complete with a lively town center, horseback riding, and BBQ. Hutto might best be known for it’s mascot, the hippo. As legend has it, a hippo escaped from a circus train in the early 1900s, making a local Hutto creek its’ home. In its honor, there are now close to “3,000 hippo statues throughout town, including Henrietta, a 14,000-pound concrete statue that stands in Hutto’s Old Town.”*
